Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar ready for important weekend battle with QPR

Ron Vlaar: Urging team-mates to push on and take all three points against QPR

Vlaar, 28, returned from injury to help steer Villa towards a vital win away at Reading last time out and with QPR to face next, the skipper has issued a rallying call.

Having picked up two wins in their last five outings, as well as encouraging performances against Arsenal and Manchester City, Villa's form is improving just in time for the Premier League run-in.

"That was a good start at Reading but Saturday's game is immense," said Vlaar.

"It was a very important win for us and we really needed that one against another team in a similar situation.

"But besides the last two games against very good teams in City and Arsenal, we have had good results.

"That is what we have to do - we know we have to work hard and try to win games.

"We want to make everybody happy, with 34,000-35,000 people at home."

Villa's captain was also quick to jump to the defence of under-fire youngsters Nathan Baker and Ciaran Clark, following the former's own goal against Reading and Clark's mistake against City which gifted the champions a goal.

"It is not easy when something like that happens. But they keep their heads up the young players," added Vlaar.

"They have to go on and it didn't affect Nathan in the game at all.

"Ciaran too against Manchester City, I don't think he thought back and that is very good.

"He knows what happens, but you have to get through it."
