The prolific 24-year-old, previously linked with Newcastle and Tottenham, is poised to bring his talents to the Premier League next season, with Norwich paying cash-strapped Sporting a fee in the region of 8.5m.
Van Wolfswinkel would bring much needed firepower to the Canaries squad, with Norwich having scored just 28 goals in the league this season - only Stoke and bottom side QPR have managed less.
He joined Sporting from Utrecht in the summer of 2011 and has been a regular goal scorer since, despite the team suffering a slump this season that has put them in an unusual lower mid-table position.
His deal with the Portuguese side was due to run until the summer of 2016 but they are reported to be in serious financial trouble, forcing them to offload the striker for much less than his reported 19m buyout clause.
He made his Holland debut against Ukraine back in 2010, getting on the score-sheet as well, but has not yet added to that single cap despite being called into a number of squads.
