The 27-year-old defender, who suffered the injury in Hull's recent game with Nottingham Forest, discovered the length of his absence during consultations with renowned ankle surgeon James Calder.
However, Hull boss Steve Bruce has confirmed the season-ending injury will not damage the Republic of Ireland international's chances of securing a new deal at the KC Stadium following an impressive campaign at the npower Championship's second-placed club.
