Newcastle's Massadio Haidara hopes to return 'sooner rather than later'

Massadio Haidara: Hoping to return for Newcastle 'sooner rather than later&#

Haidara is currently sidelined with severe bruising to his thigh, sustained from Callum McManaman's horror tackle in Newcastle's 2-1 defeat at Wigan earlier this month.

Reports suggest the French left-back, a January arrival from Nancy, could make his comeback in the Magpies' UEFA Europa League quarter-final at Benfica on April 4th.

But the 20-year-old is not putting a date on his return, saying only that he hopes to be back in action soon, telling the Chronicle Live: "I hope to be back sooner rather than later.

"I don't have any precise date for that.

"In the meantime I will work hard here. And of course I will be supporting the team, which I do all the time if I am playing or not."

Haidara was making just his fifth appearance for Newcastle when he suffered the injury and says he will try and use the experience as a learning curve.

He added: "They say what doesn't destroy you can make you stronger. That's true.

"It is going to be difficult for me to start with when I return.

"But I have learned a lot from this.

"I am learning more about the English game and it is a great education for me."
