The versatile Austrian re-joined the Latics in January from Bundesliga outfit Hamburg.
He has expressed a desire to return to Germany in the summer, with the 33-year-old of the opinion that he has unfinished business there following a frustrating time with injury.
There has been no word from Wigan as to what their plans are for Scharner, but he feels he is capable of playing on a for 'a few more years yet' and will look to make a definitive decision once the 2012/13 campaign comes to a close.
Scharner told the Wigan Evening Post: "I wouldn't like to put a figure on it, but my own target is to play for a few more years yet.
"Where that will be, I don't know.
"But it's not the right time to be speaking about my future, to be honest.
"I am totally focused on the matches between now and the end of the season, and nothing else. Of course I am very happy here at Wigan, but let's get the next 11 matches out of the way before we talk about the other stuff.
"I am enjoying playing 90 minutes every week, staying in the starting XI, and as long as that continues I will be happy."
